VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Fans of Trader Joe’s have a new location to check out as a second store is now open in Virginia Beach’s Town Center.
The line to get inside wrapped around the corner as people chanted “Trader Joe’s!” during the store’s ribbon-cutting. Those who walked inside were given a “Virginia is for Lovers” tote bag as they explored the almost 10,000 square foot store.
“I brought this 11-page list with me, it’s from my daughter,” said one shopper. “They eat pretty healthy, and I’m going to give this all to them for Christmas time.”
Crew members with Trader Joe’s told 13News Now that this new location will help alleviate crowding seen at the first store, located at Hilltop Plaza.
Shawn Tibbetts, COO of Armada Hoffler and property owner of Trader Joe’s, said they’ve worked for more than a year to bring this second location to Town Center. Tibbetts said the outpouring of support shows how much Town Center has grown over the years.
“We believe this further activates Town Center, which is already very activ,e but we think it’s complementary for not only the office tenants but the retail tenants here in Town Center,” said Tibbetts.
In addition to local hiring, Trader Joe’s will participate in the Neighborhood Shares Program, donating 100% of unsold but still consumable products to local non-profit organizations on a weekly basis. This initiative aims to support community-based organizations and reduce food waste while promoting sustainability.
The Virginia Beach store’s operating hours will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It will be open until 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25. It is located at 220 Constitution Drive.
